We believe that Nepal has potential of producing and marketing (including export) fruits, vegetable and spices are much more than that it is.  Whereas the Daily Wholesale Market Price Bulletin, as a part of MIS, offers transparency of the major wholesale markets of Nepal.  This is a daily publication published with the co-operative contribution of different organizations. It contains commodity wise market, source, unit, minimum and the maximum price information of a day. It could be one of the tools for effective and efficient private sector agricultural marketing.

In the partnership with Government of Nepal, the task of disseminating daily price information from selected areas was enunciated primarily with fresh fruits and vegetables.  The primary and sole objective behind the price information bulletin was to disseminate the price on a daily basis to show that the private sector is willing and in need of such information dissemination and also, the same will be continued by the felt needed organizations/commodity associations/commodity groups.

The bulletin was started with the wholesale market price information of 4 different wholesale markets (Kalimati, Birtamod, Dharan and Kapurkot) of Nepal in 17 August 1998.  Later, the market coverage expanded to 8 (addition of Pokhara, Narayangardh, Butwal, Nepalgunj, Mahendranagar) markets. The other organizations also find interest in the bulletin and it starting covering 11 major (addition of Hetauda, Palpa and Surkhet) wholesale markets of Nepal.

Objective

The general objective of the bulletin is to disseminate daily price information of fresh fruit & vegetables and spices at different key markets of Nepal.

  • Make promptly available the latest wholesale market information on fresh Fruits & Vegetables and Spices of different major wholesale markets of Nepal,
  • Establish a nation wide wholesales market network creating competition among the markets to strengthen the markets of Nepal,
  • Generate database of the performance of the wholesale markets of Nepal,
  • Make promptly available of different databank on the performance of wholesale markets of Nepal to analyse the trend of prices and arrivals of fresh fruits & vegetables and spices over the country for further strategies and planning.

Introduction to B2B e-commerce: “Nepalese e-Haat Bazaar”:


Establishment of business relationship among entrepreneurs and business promotion through the use of electronic media, especially Internet and website is called B2B  (Business to Business) e-commerce. This technology is named “Nepalese e-Haat Bazaar”. It not only plays an important role in promotion of interrelationship among the entrepreneurs and business promotion in local, regional and national level, but also helps in international market promotion in the context of Nepal’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Nepal is a geographically diverse country. Therefore the boundless concept like information technology has great importance and efficiency in bringing people from every sector and far away region together. Having realized this fact, after successful implementation of Agro Commodities Price website (www.agripricenepal.com), “Nepalese e-Haat Bazaar” has been brought into operation by the Rural Urban Partnership Program /MLD/UNDP (RUPP), High Level Commission for Information Technology (HLCIT) and Agro Enterprise Center/Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry  (AEC) as a national website for promotion of e-commerce in Nepal.  AEC is playing the central administrative role in this website. It was launched in 15 June 2005.
